Solar Cycle

“Paulatinamente Yoga” Parcent, Alicante, Spain

2024

Solar Cycle is a mural to celebrate life, a mural to observe and enter into deeper states of being.
A mural to salute the Sun.

A mural in homenage to the Sun, to what it is and what it represents.

This mural reminds us of the cycles of Nature, the value of ritual, the constancy of
impermanence and the light we all carry within us.
The central symbol, whith lines that radiates, is a hexapetalous flower, a solar symbol par
excellence in ancient Europe, which has been and is considered a protective symbol, to ward off
bad energies and attract good ones. A symbol of fertility and vitality. Traditionally it was placed
on the lintel of the doors, or in places that wanted to protect, such as food stores. In this case
this motif has also been taken as the logo of the Yoga School.
On the other hand it is a symbol based on the 6, in the hexagon, which is created by means of
two triangles, one with the vertex upwards representing the masculine energy and the other with
the vertex downwards representing the feminine energy. In this case it fits with the context since
the project and the place where the mural is located are created by a couple, a woman and a
man.

In the outer ring we see a serpentine organic form, with 10 undulations, which gives movement
to the mural. In its inner part there are 10 figures that show a Yoga sequence, known as The
Sun Salutation. To make these figures, photos were taken by the creator of the project and Yoga
teacher, Paula. On the outside of this serpentine form we see some plant motifs, some with
leaves and others without. This part represents David, Paula's partner, who works as a forest
firefighter and also as a tree trimmer. Symbolically, the interior is associated with feminine
energy and the exterior with masculine energy.
Another important aspect of this mural is that it was created with golden measurements. The
proportion of the radius of the central circle to the radius of the outer circle is created following
the golden ratio. This proportion is said to bring harmony and balance to the forms and to the
beholder, and this is how I experience it.
